Having made the 12 hour journey to Assynt, northwest Scotland, the day before, we set out to find a suitable field site for coring. The job was made slightly more difficult by the wet weather the area had received over the weekend, which meant that the water level was much higher than usual. Eventually though, we found a suitable site. Jerry sampled the area using a gouge and the sediment showed a clear transition from organic to marine sediment, showing a change in sea level.
