A few weeks ago, Chris flew out to Tromso in Norway to liase with the academic we’ll be working with at the University there, and to check out the field area we’ll be looking at. The good news is that all the glaciers we’re interested in seem pretty accessible from the road that runs round the Lyngen Peninsula, (and by that I mean they’re within an hour or two’s walk), plus there’s a research station in one of the valleys that we can use as a base. In addition, he (our colleague in Tromso) showed us some Norwegian websites where we can get hold of high-quality aerial photographs of our study area, which have an incredible spatial resolution. This will really enhance our ability to map in detail the fluctuations in the glaciers! All in all, things are looking good for our expedition, and I’m looking forward to getting started with the mapping after Christmas.
