Fieldwork – Day 3
On the last day of fieldwork, we headed to Loch Duart to collect some sediment cores from the boat. We attached a rope to both sides of the loch, which we then used to keep the boat steady whilst the cores were taken with a gouge. We took cores from three sites on the loch, and made some breif notes about the appearance of the sediment and the depth that the cores were taken, then wrapped and labeled them to take back to Durham, ready to be analysed in the labs.

The boat had to be taken out of the loch via the sea. Whilst this was being done, I went onto the salt marsh with Christine and Tasha to take a core, as Christine has sampled here previously. However, unless we sampled in exactly the same place, the gouge hit rock. We were called to help get the boat out of the water before we could obtain a sample.
The next day, we headed back to Durham.
